Hallwatch.org :This web page makes it easy for Pennsylvanians to send a message to
their state officials about casinos (or anything else):

http://www.hallwatch.org/faxbank/pgcb

All you have to do is fill out a simple web based form, like sending
email using hotmail or gmail.  A copy of your message is then faxed to
all members of the gaming board as well as your elected
representatives in the legislature and Governor Rendell.

The beauty of this technology is that you can contact all relevant
decision makers--about 10 or so--with a single message.  The server
takes care of figuring out who your elected representatives in
Harrisburg are.

What others say about our group:

"No Casino Gettysburg had made remarkable progress in one month, carrying the issue of gambling's corrosive impacts from the streets of  Gettysburg to the halls of the Pa. state legislature and the U.S. Congress. Ultimately, this fight will require that both national political parties and the White House come to terms with the rising citizen demand across America to stop this corrupting influence on American culture and values."

Reverend Thomas A. Grey, Ex Director, National Coalition Against Expansion of Gambling www.ncalg.org

"No Casino Gettysburg is making remarkable progress and your passion and will are certainly to be admired." Ken Burns, film maker

Frequently Asked Questions:
For much more see the "Empty Promises" Page
Who is No Casino Gettysburg?

We are a totally volunteer citizen based organization begun by residents of Adams County, PA. We have attracted persons committed to our cause from across the nation. Our sole function is to block Casino gambling in or near Gettysburg, Pa. We do not want a slots casino in Adams County, nor for any investor to desecrate the name "Gettysburg" by attaching it to such and inappropriate use. Our persistence and tenacity is total--we will not stop our activism until this bad idea is completely dead and being autopsied. We grow in numbers daily, and have a number of sub-committees. We operate through a democratic process and share our findings and progress with national preservation groups, and local and national media. We raise money to fund our public education efforts, and we enlist volunteers to win the fight and block casino gambling in our historic community.

If I join is my name made public?  No. We don't keep a membership list, so the way to "join" is to fight against this idea by helping us with a letter, etc. Not unless you specifically authorize the use of your name in political advertising etc. We never sell names. Because the investors are so influential in our area, we have many "shadow" helpers who do not want to be public with their opposition.

How can I volunteer to help? Thanks for asking! Call or e-mail us to get on list so we can contact you.

How can I donate money? Thanks for asking! Go to the "donate please" page of this website and hit the paypal button. Send a check to our address made out to No Casino Gettysburg to No Casino Gettysburg, Box 3173, Gettysburg, PA 17325

Can I enroll my church or civic group?  To avoid polarization of local groups we are not forming a coalition of organizations nor are we enrolling organizations. Groups are encouraged to issue their own statements, as a growing list of local and national organizations are doing. If your group wants a speaker please contact us. If your organization does make an announcement please let us know, so it can be posted on our website.

If I am not a resident of Gettysburg, or Pennsylvania, is there a role for me?
Absolutely!  The decision about the casino will turn on the "hallowed ground" and sacred battlefield site issues. Many Civil War Re-enactors are joining us from all over the USA. send a note to volunteer@nocasinogettysburg.com
What can I do to stop this outrageous desecration of sacred battlefield lands where soldiers of the North and South fought and died with such valor?

Take five minutes and send our website link --
www.nocasinogettysburg.com to five friends.  Tell them in your own words, your heartfelt feelings about why this is so important to you. Tell them you have already given a donation and invite them to do the same right away. Then ask them to read through our entire website and ask each of your five friends to send the link on to five of their friends.  This can start a veritable avalanche of massive anti-casino citizen opinion.  Here is the power of "We, the People". If five of your friends send to five friends and each of them sends to five more friends, we can mobilize tens of thousands of anti casino citizens from across the nation and world quickly!!

What about the power of Big Money?  Doesn't bringing "more jobs and tourists" to historic Gettysburg make the pro casino case very compelling?
(Also see the "empty promises" page of this website.)
No and here is why.  Gettysburg, the second most visited National Park is historically and currently a family-based tourism site like Williamsburg Va.  As long as we fight to keep it that way, Gettysburg history is a "Cash cow" for the borough, county and state. We live here, and we see the children and teenagers with their parents learning a critical lesson in American history. The $110 million the state of Pa. rakes in from Gettysburg tourism will not be enhanced by the casino.  With a casino in town, the family based tourism market will be slashed in half or more. A survey over July 2, 3 of 2005 found 96% of our visitors opposed to the casino and 53% said they would not return.

This literally is a case of "killing the goose that laid the golden egg." Bringing a casino to Gettysburg equals one very dead goose and sharply declining state revenues. We would like to hear our opposition's argument about hundreds of thousands of families who will no longer come here knowing their children and youth will be exposed to a toxic casino environment
.
